Classroom Rules and Expectations 2011 (FALL Semester)

The purpose of this class is to energize students with an understanding of business related topics including: Options for Organizing Small and Large Businesses; Starting and Growing Your Business;   E-Commerce; Human Resource Management; Management, Leadership, and the Internal Organization; Improving Performance Through Empowerment, Teamwork & Communication.

Attendance:  Regular attendance in class is obviously essential to the learning process and is expected of all students.  In the event of an absence, it is YOUR responsibility to find out what work was missed and have it completed upon your return to class.

Behavior:  I will treat the classroom very similar to how you are treated in the “real” world.  I expect students to be in uniform, prepared for class, and courteous in all situations.  If it becomes habit for the student to be tardy, it could potentially result in the lowering of your final grade.  I expect students to properly use their computer accounts.  Games, Streaming Video, and inappropriate pictures/websites will not be tolerated.  In addition, there is no food or drinks allowed in the computer lab, and a violation of these rules, or to the DeMatha Computer Code of Ethics, can result in a loss to your privilege to use the computer at DeMatha Catholic High School.

Grading Scale:  Your grade will be calculated off total possible points.  These points will be accumulated based upon quizzes, tests, class work, projects, and homework.

A = 100-94 / A- = 93-90 / B = 89-84 / B- = 83-80 / C = 79-74 / C- = 73-70 / D = 69-65 / F =  < 65

Homework/Class work:  Homework/Class work will be given out and checked regularly and will include various assignments.  Homework is generally 20-40 points (depending on the number of questions). Every Friday each student will have to find an article in class, that covers what we are currently talking about in class and write 3-4 sentences summarizing the article (these will be 10 points each).  There will also be multiple projects (a couple that need to be done at home) that will be 100 points each.

Materials Needed:  Each student should have the book (CONTEMPORARY BUSINESS 2009, by Boone and Kurtz), a notebook to take notes, and a pen and pencil.

Tests and Quizzes: Each chapter will have at least one quiz and one test.  A review will be done the class period before the announced quiz/test dates.  There is a Mid-Term exam that will be given during exam week that will cover all the material covered.
